My Approach and Bio

At different times in their lives, many people experience career uncertainty and challenges. When they seek assistance, it shouldn't be about telling them what to do. My approach is to pay close attention to your goals, ask you many questions, help you gain clarity and additional self-understanding, teach you new strategies and techniques, provide resources and support, and make suggestions for your consideration. It's not about me telling you "what to do". Instead, it's a collaborative effort: I'm your consultant and guide to help you get to where you want to go.

I bring to you ten years of professional experience helping clients in a wide range of fields, including business, not-for-profits, IT, public relations, marketing, architecture, law, education, and many other fields. I know the workplace well, having spent 5 years as an analyst for the Department of State, and fifteen years as a project manager at AARP. If it's a career change you are considering, I'll bring you empathy and personal experience as a career-changer. Twelve years ago I went back and got a masters degree in Counseling from George Washington University. I also hold an MA from Stanford and a PhD from Johns Hopkins in International Relations.

I am certified as an NCC by the National Board of Certified Counselors, the primary nationwide certification Board. In addition, I earned certifications by Lee Hecht Harrison and the 5 O'Clock Club, where I contributed my skills and absorbed their knowledge about how best to help downsized clients find jobs as quickly as possible.

My memberships include the National Career Development Association, the American Counseling Association, and the International Coach Federation. To continually update my skills, I meet regularly with a professional peer group and I participate in training, most recently on networking/social networking, and on using visualization/guided imagery to increase success in finding a job.

I invite you to send me an email or call to learn more about how I might be of assistance to you. My office is in downtown Washington, or I can work with you by phone or Skype.
