Karen James Chopra, LPC, MCC, NCC

I am a therapist and career counselor with a private practice in Washington, D.C. The work I do with clients falls into three categories: (1) career exploration—helping people figure out what to do, or what to do next, with their career; (2) job search—resumes, interview preparation, networking and salary negotiation; and (3) career management—coaching clients who have a job, but want help managing a situation, such as a reorganization or a promotion, or managing a relationship with a supervisor, colleague or subordinate. If it affects your career, I handle it.

I have developed a unique approach, which I call Integrative Career Counseling, in recognition of the reality that it can sometimes be hard to separate career issues from all the other things that are going on in our lives. The work is more in-depth than other forms of career counseling, which many clients welcome for its comprehensiveness.

I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in the District of Columbia, and I am also a National Certified Counselor (NCC) and a Master Career Counselor (MCC). In 2010, I inaugurated an online career column for the Washington Post's "On Success" feature; copies of many of those columns can be found on my website. I am currently writing a book on the Integrative Career Counseling model that I developed.
